Every three years, the National Fire Protection Association updates the National Electrical Codes for new safety rules and to accommodate new technology. The Cost of Whole Home Rewiring

The average cost to rewire an entire home is $7,000, but as this is the average, we estimate anywhere between $3,000-20,000. This price can vary dramatically depending upon several things. 

Firstly, your home rewire cost will depend upon the size of your home.--the larger the home, the greater the expense, as it will take more parts and labor to complete the job.

Secondly, the age of the home will also factor in - the older the home, typically the higher the cost, as more components are likely to need addressing and the wiring may not be as easily accessible. Older homes may require more than a newer home - the panel may need to be a part of the upgrade, for example. Many older homes were built with 100 amp panels. These are usually not enough to accomodate our modern electricity usage. The NEC recommends a 150 amp or 200 amp panel to provide power and avoid overheating.

Finally, the electrician you choose will impact the cost. It's a great idea to shop around and get a few estimates on the project before making a commitment.
